Reigning F3 Americas Champs Return for Sebring Finale

Jacob Abel Bidding for Top-Two Title Finish in Closing Tripleheader

Reigning F3 Americas Championship team Abel Motorsports of Louisville, KY is mounting one of the busiest racing schedules anywhere in 2019.  Competing regularly in two of the country’s toughest open wheel development series is tough enough.  Having earned victories in both is a unique accomplishment.

Now, Abel Motorsports lead driver Jacob Abel returns to F3 Americas competition for the first time since the series ran at Pitt Race in June. Despite having to miss the following two race weekends due to schedule conflicts, Abel comes into the season-ending tripleheader 4thin the Championship, just 24 markers out of 2nd. The college freshman earned his first two professional victories earlier this season at Road Atlanta in F3 Americas action.  And with 75 points up for grabs for three race wins, Abel knows anything is possible.

“That is the goal,” commented the 18-year-old rising star.  “Even though I’ve had to miss a couple of events I’ve still got a shot at 2ndin the Championship. I have plenty of confidence after winning at Road Atlanta earlier this year.  We’ve had some great runs, some great finishes in F3 Americas this season.  It’s going to be good to get back in that car, in that paddock.  We’ve found some things with the car recently that should bring us some better pace.   I know Sebring a good bit.  We’ve tested on the short course, and I’ve done some sim work on the full course, so I think we’re ready for the challenge.”

Team Principal Bill Abel agrees.  “We are excited about being able to finish up the F3 Americas season at Sebring.  I’ve raced there a lot in vintage competition. We’ve been working with the F3 car since the Pitt Race weekend.  It wasn’t our best race weekend of the year, so we’ve gone back to work and we’ve figured out some things on the car.  We’re pretty optimistic about the event.  I think Sebring suits Jacob’s driving style, so we’re looking forward to it.”

Abel Motorsports dominated the 2018 F3 Americas Championship Powered by Honda with driver Kyle Kirkwood earning the first-ever F3Americas title, and Jacob Abel garnering several solid finishes in his rookie season. This year, while racing full time in another series, Abel Motorsports will have competed in four of the six F3Americas weekends.   Jacob Abel has put together an extremely impressive F3 season thus far with two wins, four 3rds, and a 4th-place finish in just 8 series starts, good for 4thin the Championship.   Three strong runs at Sebring this weekend could mean a Vice Championship for young Abel, another high-water mark in the young ace’s career.
