Cope issues apology to Schroeder, Trans Am

Clearwater, FL (July 3, 2020)— In a statement provided to The Trans Am Race Company and its officials, Mike Cope apologized for actions that took place following the official call to extend the race by one lap after the time expired in the TA2 race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

“I would like to formally apologize to Dorsey Schroeder and the entire Trans Am TA2 officiating staff for my actions following the Mid-Ohio event. These actions are not upholding to what Mike Cope Racing Enterprises, Inc. is all about. At the time, I did not agree with the race going back to green when the time had already expired; however, I shouldn’t have voiced my opinion in the manner that I did,” stated Cope.

“I agree with the decision that Dorsey made, regardless if the decision gets overturned due to the appeal. I have no problem with the outcome, either way. In the end, we are at the racetrack to win races on the track, not off. I believe in The Trans Am Race Company and the integrity of the staff to do their job to the best of their ability. It is a difficult task and I know firsthand having owned a racetrack and having assisted in running a racing series. My interest is strictly the betterment of Trans Am and growing the Trans Am Race Company with them.”

As results stand, Mike Cope Race Car driver Thomas Merrill was issued the win after Race Director Dorsey Schroeder determined post-race that the clock indeed expired under yellow, however, that decision is now under review by the SCCA Pro Racing Court of Appeals panel.
