Ryan Shehan Gains Experience in the Ligier European Series at Mugello
October 3, 2024 – Ryan Shehan impressed in Italy this past weekend, bringing home a seventh-place result in his first Ligier European Series event. As part of his Formula Regional Americas Championship (FR Americas) vice-champion prize from 2023, the Texas native took part in the fifth round of the Ligier European Series, the 4-Hours of Mugello, his first venture into sportscar racing.
Alongside Belgian driving partner Sita Vanmeert, the two took home a top-10 result and the third-fastest lap in race two of the weekend for the Les Deux Arbres team. The pair piloted their No. 86 Ligier JS2 R to a sixth-place start for race one, but got collected in an on-track incident and had to retire the car early due to an unrelated mechanical issue. Race two saw the duo return, fighting amongst the top five before falling behind in the pit stop driver change.
“I think we had a pretty good result this weekend,” expressed Shehan. “Despite this being my first sportscar experience. The pit stop was a new element for me, and we had a bit of a hill to climb with the minimum stop time rules compared to some other cars. Overall, I’m happy with my performance and thankful for the generous award from FR Americas Championship, Ligier Automotive, and Mo Murray [CEO of Ligier Automotive North America], without whom I wouldn’t have been able to partake this weekend.”
Despite a tough race one, it was an impressive start for the Texan, as he begins to venture outside the FR Americas Championship.
