MLT Motorsports Announces Alex Popow Jr. to Drive the No. 54 Ligier JS F422 in the 2025 F4 U.S. Championship

f4BRASELTON, Ga. (March 20, 2025) – MLT Motorsports announced today that up-and-coming driver Alex Popow Jr. will drive the No. 54 Ligier JS F422 for the 2025 F4 U.S. Championship season. Popow Jr. was recently named one of 14 drivers awarded the Parella Motorsports Holdings (PMH) Diversity Scholarship.
“We couldn’t be prouder to have Alex join our team full-time in 2025,” said Dr. Michael Thompson, team owner. “Alex raced with us at COTA last year and made an impression by winning in his F4 U.S. debut with us. Helping develop talent like Alex is exactly why we started this team. We’re looking forward to having a front-row seat to watch Alex turn his passion into on-track success.”
Popow Jr. made his F4 U.S. Championship series debut in 2024 at Circuit of The Americas (COTA) with MLT Motorsports. The Venezuelan American turned heads, capturing the pole award and two of three race wins over the weekend. Racing a full season in 2025 is sure to be a launching pad for the up-and-comer.
“I am super excited to be running F4 with MLT Motorsports,” said Popow Jr. “It is a great team with great people behind it, and I am so thankful to Dr. Mike, Eric, Tom, and the whole crew for the opportunity and all their support. I think our goal is to definitely try and win the championship. We showed we had good speed at COTA, so we have our eyes set on victory in 2025.”
The 14 PMH Power Diversity Scholarship winners represent five different racing series, with Popow Jr. being one of two recipients in the F4 U.S. Championship. His rising talent has already drawn attention in the racing world – a trajectory that come as no surprise, given his father, Alex Popow Sr., is a seasoned sports car driver with victories at iconic tracks like Watkins Glen, Lime Rock and COTA.
“It is awesome to be one of the scholarship recipients, and it really helped us put our season in place for this year.” Popow Jr. continued, “With racing getting so expensive in these last years, having a series who helps their drivers be able to go racing is extremely important, and I think it really shows how much they care about supporting young drivers climb the ladder. It is an honor to have received this award.”
The MLT Motorsports team will enter the championship race beginning with the F4 U.S. Championship opener at NOLA, March 28-30. A track that is somewhat familiar to Popow Jr.
“I have raced at NOLA before, and it’s a pretty tricky track,” said Popow Jr. “It’s quite bumpy in some places and has some long straights that make for some good drafting. The most challenging part of the track is definitely the last corner, as you come out really tight next to a wall. I’ve been preparing myself physically by running a lot and trying to train in the Kart as much as possible.”
